The Colts are probably happy to reach the 2023 offseason after a rough 2022. They went 4-12-1 after adding QB Matt Ryan last year. The team fired Frank Reich midseason. Then, Jeff Saturday took over as head coach for the final eight games. Now, the team’s eyes have shifted to free agency and the NFL Draft. Here’s a look at the Indianapolis Colts free agency situation for 2023.
Indianapolis Colts Free Agency Overview
Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue is set to hit free agency after leading the team with 9.5 sacks. The 27-year-old DE ended the season on injured reserve after being the Colts’ best pass rusher. Tyquan Lewis from the defensive line also has an expiring contract and missed time due to injury as well.
Wide receiver Paris Campbell is set to be a free agent after a career-high 623 receiving yards and three touchdowns during the 2022 season. That was second on the team behind Michael Pittman Jr. It was a huge jump in production for Campbell who played just 6 games in 2021.
On defense for Indy, safety Rodney McLeod had career highs in tackles, passes defended, tackles for loss, and interceptions. He played almost all defensive snaps from Week 3 on. The Colts will have to consider that he’s 32 years old before they decide to re-sign him.
Kicker Chase McLaughlin joined the team in Week 2 and ended up going 30-of-36 on field goals. He also made all 21 of his PATs in the kicking game. They’ll need to address special teams as punter Matt Haack also sees his contract expire.

Colts Free Agency 2023 FAQs
NFL free agency will commence on March 15, 2023, when the new league year begins. It begins at 4 p.m. eastern time. The date signifies the start of the new league year and the end of all player contracts. Many players are set to hit the market and gain free agency status.
An unrestricted free agent is a player whose contract has expired, and they have no ties to their former team. Starting on March 15, they are free to negotiate with any team in the league without restrictions.
A restricted free agent can be extended what is called a qualifying offer. If offered, they are still allowed to negotiate with other teams around the league. Their current team is allowed to match any offer.
There is a “legal tampering” period that begins on March 13. Teams can talk to certified agents but no signings can be made until free agency is official.
