In a press release on Monday afternoon, the NFL announced that they have reinstated Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Ridley was suspended by the league indefinitely in March 2022 for violating the league’s gambling policy.
According to the release, Ridley is eligible to participate in all team activities, effective immediately. During Ridley’s suspension, the Falcons traded Ridley to the Jaguars for a fourth-round and sixth-round pick. Now Ridley is back in the NFL and with a new team.
The former Falcons first-round pick Ridley was one of the best young receivers in the NFL in 2020, catching 90 passes for 1,374 yards. Unfortunately for Ridley, he played in just five games before announcing that he was stepping away from football to focus on his mental health.
During his hiatus from the Falcons, the NFL discovered that he bet on NFL games. All of the bets Ridley placed were while he was away from the Falcons and not playing. The league said it found no indication that he used any inside information to help his betting.
Ridley now joins the Jaguars and adds to a receiving core that includes Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, Marvin Jones Jr., and Evan Engram (who will be franchise tagged by tomorrow afternoon).
