Los Angeles Rams Free Agency 2023

NFL

It was quite the Super Bowl hangover for the Rams during the 2022 season. They went 5-12 under head coach Sean McVay and nothing seemed to go right. Now, the team focuses on the offseason as it hopes to get back into the NFL playoffs in 2023. Here’s a look at the Rams free agency situation for 2023.

Los Angeles Rams 2023 NFL Free Agents Overview

Baker Mayfield and John Wolford will be looking for new teams after both filling in for injured quarterback Matthew Stafford last season. The team hopes Stafford is fully healthy heading into 2023 after battling injuries and playing only nine games.

On defense, defensive tackle Greg Gaines is hitting the market after recording four sacks and 36 tackles in 12 starts last season. DT A’Shawn Robinson also has an expiring contract.

There are questions in the secondary as Nick Scott and Taylor Rapp find themselves as free agents. Scott and Rapp combined for four interceptions and over 160 tackles.

On the offensive line, the team sees Oday Aboushi, Matt Skura, David Edwards, and Ty Nsekhe hitting free agency.

LA Rams Unrestricted Free Agents

To be an unrestricted free agent, there are a couple of qualifications. An NFL player must have four or more years of experience and their contract has to have expired or been voided. Restricted Free Agents

The team can assign a tender to the player, which allows them to match any offer the player receives from other teams. The team receives draft compensation if the player signs elsewhere.

Salary Cap and Roster

The team has plenty of moves to make to get under the salary cap which is $224.8 million for the 2023 season. Cooper Kupp is the highest cap hit at $27.8 million while Aaron Donald is second at $26 million.

Rumors have the Rams trying to deal Jalen Ramsey to clear some cap space. Ramsey has a $25.2 million cap hit for next season. This is a reason the Rams could move him during the 2023 offseason. Also, the Rams need to make moves in free agency because they are without a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
