One of the hotter names on the free agent market has found a new home. Former Saints DT David Onyemata is headed to Atlanta, per NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
David Onyemata is signing a three-year contract worth $35 million deal with $24.5 million guaranteed. Onyemata logged 43 tackles and five sacks for the Saints last season.
Onyemata also logged 11 quarterback hits and five tackles for loss. The Falcons, who already traded for tight end Jonnu Smith earlier today, have added a solid interior defensive lineman for the next few seasons.
The defensive tackle is 30 and has spent all seven of his seasons in New Orleans. Atlanta also dished out a big contract extension with guard Chris Lindstrom. Lindstrom got $105 million over four years and becomes the highest paid guard in the league.
Atlanta still has more than $50 million in cap space to spend. So keep an eye on the Falcons, who have been very aggressive today and have plenty of space to spend.
