It Looks Like Jamel Dean is Staying in Tampa Bay Afterall

NFL

In a surprising turn of events, the Buccaneers gave cornerback Jamel Dean a new four-year contract worth $52 million. Dean was expected to depart Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers stripping things down these days.

Still, Tampa Bay felt it was important enough to bring one of their best players back.

Dean played in 15 games this season and logged 57 tackles, two interceptions, and eight passes defended. According to Pro Football Focus, Dean ranked 10th among all cornerbacks this season. Dean was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and was on the final year of his rookie contract last season.

The Buccaneers are up against the cap after the signing, even with the cuts that they made in recent weeks.

Tampa Bay was rumored to be interested in quarterback Baker Mayfield over the weekend, but no reports have linked the two since the tampering period began earlier this afternoon.
