Jets Reportedly Signing WR Allen Lazard (Because Aaron Rodgers Wants Them To)
The New York Jets are working to finalize a deal for free agent wide receiver Allen Lazard this afternoon, per Mike Garafolo. Lazard’s new contract with the Jets is reportedly worth $44 million over four years.
That’s not a terribly high number for Lazard, but it’s still a lot of money to throw at a position group that already featured Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, and Denzel Mims.
So … why?
Because Aaron Rodgers said so, that’s why!
Yep. That’s right; the Jets have entered the Aaron Rodgers GM phase. The same one that Packers fans have had to watch for the last umpteen years. ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported earlier today that “Aaron Rodgers has provided the NY Jets with a wish list of free agents he would like them to target and acquire, per sources.”
So, if the Jets want to trade for Rodgers, they’ll first have to go shopping for the quarterback and get all his buddies. Namely receivers … even though they don’t have a huge need for the position.
Oh, my goodness. I am actually laughing so hard right now.
And the best part of all of this is that Rodgers still hasn’t said that he wants to play there (as far as we know), and the Jets still haven’t even traded for him! So meanwhile, he’s sitting in his Malibu mansion (or maybe in some forest) playing GM of the Jets.
It’s all pretty painful to watch. I couldn’t imagine being a Packers fan and rooting for this guy.
Anyways, Allen Lazard is heading to the Jets. Lazard is coming off of a season in which he hauled in 60 passes for 788 yards and six touchdowns. So again, it’s not a bad signing for the Jets. The reason why the Jets had to sign Lazard is troubling, though.
