Lions Keep Adding to Secondary, Signing Free Agent CB Emmanuel Moseley
I was convinced the Lions would take a cornerback with their first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And, hey … they still might! But I’m less convinced now than ever. For the second time in two days, Detroit has added a cornerback. This time, it’s former 49ers’ corner Emmanuel Moseley (per Adam Schefter).
The Lions are adding Emmanuel Moseley on a one-year, $6 million dollar deal. Which is not too shabby considering his age (26) and numbers: He had an interception (a pick-six, in fact), five pass break-ups, and a tackle for loss in five starts for the 49ers last season.
Unfortunately, Moseley’s season was cut short after he tore an ACL. Moseley signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He’s been pretty good when healthy. However, healthy has been an issue for him. Moseley played in 11 games and 2021 and five in 2022.
A one-year prove it deal for Moseley works for both sides.
The Lions also signed former Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton on Monday. Detroit gave Sutton a three-year deal worth $33 million. Sutton and Moseley join Jeff Okudah, Ifeautu Melinfonwu, Chase Lucas, Jerry Jacobs, and Mae McCain on the active roster.
Long-time Lions cornerback Will Harris is a free agent, and not expected to return to Detroit.
