Another one. I’m beginning to feel like that DJ Khaled GIF as I begin post No. 11 today. In our second notable trade of the afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts are sending cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys, per multiple reports.
CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson says that the Cowboys are sending a fifth-round compensatory pick to the Colts for Gilmore.
Dallas has been quiet through the first 36 hours of the league’s legal tampering period, but now they add a pretty darn good cornerback in Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore has made his way around the NFL in recent years. Fresh off of knee surgery, Gilmore signed a two-year deal with the Colts ahead of the 2022 season. Gilmore is set to make $7.96 million this season.
Gilmore logged 66 tackles and two interceptions for the Colts in 2022. He spent the 2021 season in Carolina and the previous four with the New England Patriots.
The move clears up $9 million in cap space for the Colts.
Gilmore was the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. While he’s on the other side of 30 these days, the Cowboys are hoping that he can be a nice addition to their secondary on the other side of Trevon Diggs.
