According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent running back Rashaad Penny.
Philadelphia is moving on from Miles Sanders, also a free agent, to bring in a talented back in Rashaad Penny, who was phased out in Seattle with the emergence of Kenneth Walker III last season.
Walker III was a Rookie of the Year candidate and a Pro Bowl alternate. Penny was brilliant in Seattle when healthy, but couldn’t stay on the field nearly often enough.
When healthy, he averaged 5.7 yards per attempt in 42 career games with the Seahawks. Penny was limited to five games in 2022, 10 in 2021, and three in 2020. My initial reaction is that Penny will thrive behind this Eagles’ offensive line if he can stay healthy. But, given that he has never carried the ball more than 119 times, the Eagles will need to pair him with another back in the Philadelphia backfield.
Behind that talented Eagles offensive line last season, Miles Sanders rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns on 259 carries. Sanders averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
The Eagles have Boston Scott floating around in free agency who they could bring back at a low-cost to pair with Penny.
