I really didn’t see this one coming! The Las Vegas Raiders are trading tight end Darren Waller to the Giants. The Giants are sending a third-round pick back to Vegas, per Adam Schefter.
The third-round pick (No. 100 overall) that the Giants are sending to the Raiders was received from the Kansas City Chiefs in the Kadarius Toney trade in November. So, essentially, the Giants swapped Toney for Darren Waller over time.
With the deal, the Raiders will clear some additional cap room ($11.55M more, for an updated total of ~$27M) and a top-100 pick. And the Giants will get Daniel Jones another weapon in Darren Waller.
Waller signed an extension with the Raiders in September. The deal was a three-year, $51 million extension with $19.25 million guaranteed. Waller’s base value in 2023 will be $25 million, including a $2.55 million roster bonus.
The Giants will owe Waller $12 million in 2024, $13 million in 2025, and $15 million in 2026. There is also a $250K incentive bonus for Waller making a Pro Bowl each season.
Darren Waller caught 28 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns an an injury-plaged 2022 season. Waller caught 55 passes in 2021 and had an incredible 107-catch, 1,196 yards season for the Raiders in 2020.
