Baker Mayfield is Heading to the Buccaneers
The Buccaneers have added another face to their QB room this morning. According to multiple reports, Baker Mayfield will head to Tampa Bay on a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million.
Baker Mayfield split time with the Panthers and Rams last season after being traded to Carolina last offseason. Mayfield started six games for the Panthers last season. He posted a 74.4 passer rating and a 1-5 record before being cut by Carolina.
After Matthew Stafford went down, Sean McVay brought Mayfield to Los Angeles. Mayfield started four games for the Rams, losing three of them. He completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 850 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in his four-game stint with the Rams.
Which was enough to convince another team that there may be something left in the former No. 1 overall pick.
Mayfield heads to Tampa Bay to compete with Kyle Trask for the starting job in a few months. The plan in Tampa Bay was initially believed to be Kyle Trask getting a look as the starter next season with a low-cost veteran option behind him.
Personally, I would have stuck with that plan. But, still, it’s a one-year deal. So, even if they go with Baker out of the gates and he stinks it up, Trask is waiting in the wings.
