San Francisco 49ers 2023 NFL Draft Picks

The 49ers saw their season come to a crashing halt in the NFC Championship game after multiple injuries at the quarterback position.

Now, general manager John Lynch is focused on the offseason and NFL Draft to keep his team strong for head coach Kyle Shanahan. Here’s what you need to know about the 49ers’ draft picks in 2023.

List of 2023 49ers Draft Picks and Rounds

The 49ers definitely have one of the more unique draft orders in the 2023 NFL Draft. Seven of the selections for the Niners are compensatory draft picks. The team has 11 draft picks overall, including the seven compensatory draft picks.

– 3rd Round: 99th overall (compensation pick)

– 3rd Round: 101st overall (compensation pick)

– 3rd Round: 102nd overall (compensation pick)

– 5th Round: 155th overall (from Dolphins)

– 5th Round: 164th overall

– 5th Round: 173rd overall (compensation pick)

– 6th Round: 216th overall (compensation pick)

– 7th Round: 222nd overall (from Broncos)

– 7th Round: 247th overall

– 7th Round: 253rd overall (compensation pick)

– 7th Round: 255th overall (compensation pick)

The flurry of trades the 49ers have made in recent years have them sitting without a first or second-round pick in this year’s draft: For example, the trade-up to get Trey Lance in the 2021 draft, as well as the 49ers’ deal to acquire Christian McCaffrey in 2022. These two deals have stripped the team from its best picks in 2023.

The 49ers received three compensatory picks in the third round for Martin Mayhew, Mike McDaniel, and Ran Carthon leaving the team for head coach or general manager positions as minority candidates. The team also gets comp picks for 2022 free agency after losing D.J. Jones, Arden Key, Raheem Mostert, and K’Waun Williams.

San Francisco 49ers 2023 Mock Draft and Team Needs

The 49ers have been able to draft well in the past by adding All-Pro players such as tight end George Kittle and defensive end Nick Bosa. Bosa had 18.5 sacks in 2022 and was the NFL’s defensive player of the year. The team will have to search for high value as it doesn’t select until round 3 in this year’s draft.

San Francisco’s needs consist of depth at the offensive line, safety, and defensive line positions. You could see them use the long list of compensation picks at the end of rounds to load up on the offensive and defensive lines. The team kicks off its drafting with the 99th overall pick and a compensation pick.

The team was able to add defensive tackle Javon Hargrave on a four-year deal in free agency. He will be anchoring the defensive line with Nick Bosa heading into training camp in Santa Clara.
