Happy MLB Opening Day to those who observe! Whether you root for the White Sox or Cubs, they’re back, and we’re all celebrating the same thing today. So, I saw this morning while I was scrolling the bird app that the Eagles will be bringing back their Kelly green uniforms in 2023, and I love it.
- I’m not an Eagles fan, but I am a fan of almost everything Kelly green. I might have mentioned my South Side Irish roots a few times around here, so there’s the reason.
- Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said at the owner’s meetings this week: “this is the season we will re-introduce the Classic Kelly Green, and I’m super excited about it. “I don’t know what date that’s going to be, but I think fans will love it. It’s why we’re bringing it back,” he said Tuesday at the NFL owner’s meetings. “We really took the feedback seriously over the years. The first moment we could get the kelly green helmet approved, we’ll finally be able to see it on the field.”
- The Eagles had worn the Kelly green uniforms for most of their existence before doing away with the color in 1996 after Lurie purchased the team. Lurie was looking for an updated look and new identity for his new team and introduced the midnight green look. Philadelphia has sported the Kelly green look several times since in alternate uniforms. But the NFL’s one-helmet policy ended that a few years ago. The NFL announced last June that teams could again have two helmets for the season.
- In this morning’s head-scratching installment in the Lamar Jackson saga, we have a report that the Ravens offered Baker Mayfield a contract in free agency before he signed with the Buccaneers.
- This quote is from JoeBucsFan.com: “Last week, JoeBucsFan.com learned that new Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield got an offer in free agency from the Ravens but declined. Joe was able to confirm that late yesterday at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix.”
- So, the Ravens tried to sign Baker Mayfield, and Mayfield declined their offer, instead signing with Tampa Bay. That makes perfect sense for Mayfield. But for the Ravens … what the heck are you doing?
- You’re going to replace Lamar with Baker!? I don’t care what you think about Lamar and his lack of proper representation or durability … HE’S BETTER THAN BAKER MAYFIELD! At this point, and I’ve said this a couple of times, but I’m really starting to believe it’s possible—Lamar Jackson might sit out all or part of 2023.
- Lamar is feeling disrespected, he’s asked for a trade, and he’s been on record saying that he doesn’t feel valued by the Ravens … I mean, he’s already said goodbye to the fans on Twitter. Now the news comes that they Ravens offered Baker Mayfield a deal. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Jackson refused to sign the franchise tag and held out.
- From one tiring QB saga to another, we go. The Packers and Jets still have no deal in place. But Jets owner Woody Johnson thinks everything will work out just fine. Johnson said on Tuesday at the owner’s meetings, “I don’t think anybody is hyperventilating” over the delay in the two sides agreeing to a deal.
- Most people are not worried about the deal not happening as much as they are tired of hearing about it. So, for the love of all things holy, let’s get a move on with this thing, Woody. But don’t do it today. Today is MLB Opening Day, and I have plans.
