Bleacher Nation NFL 2023 Mock Draft: Giants Add Another Weapon for Daniel Jones

NFL

The Bleacher Nation NFL 2023 Mock Draft will be a running mock draft that spans between now and round one of the NFL Draft. Each of the 31 picks (Miami forfeited their first-round pick due to tampering) will get a dedicated post. Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Every pick in the Mock Draft gets its own post. We will do one or two picks per day.
  • We will link back to previous posts with a running draft recap.
  • This feature will not include trades and will cover the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Giants are on the clock in the Bleacher Nation NFL Mock Draft …

The Pick Is In

WR Quentin Johnston — TCU

The Fit

The Giants gave Daniel Jones big money to be the franchise quarterback in New York this offseason, so they’ll need to provide him with the supporting cast that comes with that role. Isaiah Hodgins was solid last season. The Giants re-signed Darius Slayton, brought in Paris Campbell, and traded for Darren Waller.

That’s a good group at a very reasonable cost. But they’re missing a potential WR1. TCU’s Quentin Johnston can fit that bill and give Daniel Jones a dynamic downfield playmaker to work with in 2023.

Scouting Report

Quentin Johnston brings an excellent blend of speed, size, and strength to the table. Johnston was spectacular in 2022, with 60 catches for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games to help lead TCU to the national championship game. He logged 115 catches for 2,190 yards and 14 touchdowns in 32 career games at TCU.

Johnston can start and stop with the best of them and can move with the football after the catch. He averaged 8.9 yards after the catch per reception in 2022, per PFF (11th), and he forced 19 missed tackles.

Johnston’s biggest knock is his focus at the catch point and the use of his body in making catches. You can see plenty of examples of him using his body to make the catch rather than making it clean with his hands.

Final Thoughts: Johnston’s drop issues could make him a potential bust, but his rare blend of size, speed, and athleticism could make him the best wide receiver in the draft. I think he falls due to the consistency concerns but provides a team like the Giants immense value in the bottom third of the first round.
