Bleacher Nation NFL 2023 Mock Draft: Eagles Replace Miles Sanders
The Bleacher Nation NFL 2023 Mock Draft will be a running mock draft that spans between now and round one of the NFL Draft. Each of the 31 picks (Miami forfeited their first-round pick due to tampering) will get a dedicated post. Here’s how it’ll work:
- Every pick in the Mock Draft gets its own post. We will do one or two picks per day.
- We will link back to previous posts with a running draft recap.
- This feature will not include trades and will cover the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Eagles are on the clock in the Bleacher Nation NFL Mock Draft …
The Pick Is In
RB Jahmyr Gibbs — Alabama
The Fit
Miles Sanders departed Philadelphia last month during free agency. After giving Jalen Hurts a new contract last week and taking a lineman earlier in this mock draft, the Eagles draft the electric Jahmyr Gibbs to replace Sanders in the backfield.
Scouting Report
Jahmyr Gibbs’ 4.36 40-yard dash second-best among all running backs at the NFL Scouting Combine and top ten overall. He has 99th percentile speed for the running back position. Gibbs ran for 926 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 44 catches for 444 yards and three scores through the air.
From the Ringer’s Danny Kelly: “Gibbs is a bit undersized but makes up for it with good vision and extraordinary juice as a runner. He has great foot quickness and changes direction on a dime, accelerating instantly to shoot through gaps in the line or to beat a pursuit angle.”
From The Athletic’s Dane Brugler: “Quick to press, sort and burst, Gibbs has sudden start/stop footwork to nimbly get in and out of his cuts and destroy pursuit angles with instantaneous acceleration. Not only does he have twitchy athletic gifts, but his understanding of football geometry and feel for blocking designs are very advanced, making him an offensive line’s best friend as a runner.”
Final Thoughts: Gibbs is an electric, big-play running back with elite field-tilting speed and sure hands out of the backfield. He’s a stud, and the Eagles’ offense becomes scarier than last season with this pick late in the first round.
