Raiders Trade Up In 2nd Round With Colts, Take Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer
It comes as a surprise to some, but Michael Mayer finally heard his name called in the NFL Draft as the third TE off the board. The Las Vegas Raiders traded up three slots from #38 to #35 to grab the record-setting Notre Dame tight end early in the second Round.
The pick prior, the Lions selected Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta with the 34th overall pick. The Raiders must have sensed a run on tight ends coming. That sparked them to trade up and select Mayer, who most viewed as a 1st Round pick and the top TE of the draft.
In exchange for the 35th pick, the Colts now own the 38th overall pick and the 141st overall pick.
