It’s the storyline that won’t go away. It cropped up again this weekend when news surfaced that Jimmy Garoppolo had foot surgery upon signing with the Raiders. Will Tom Brady suit up for the Raiders as a soon-to-be partial owner of the franchise?
The answer is no, and it came straight from Tom Brady himself.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg, Brady said that he’s “certain [he’s] not playing again.”
“I’ve tried to make that clear, and I hate to continue to profess that, because I’ve already told people that lots of times. But I’m looking forward to my broadcasting job at FOX next year. I’m looking forward to the opportunity ahead with the Raiders, and we’re in the process of that, along with the other different things that I’m a part of professionally and in my personal life. Just spending as much time with my kids as I can, and seeing them grow up and support the different things that they have going on. That’s a very important job, and I take them all pretty seriously.”
So, that’s a wrap, folks. Raiders fans hoping that Brady will rescue them from the inevitable mediocrity and durability issues of Jimmy Garoppolo. Sorry, Tom Brady isn’t coming down from the owner’s box to suit up and save the day.
Dolphins fans hoping to have Brady swoop in and replace Tua Tagovailoa and lead a win-now roster to a Super Bowl … sorry, it isn’t happening.
With Brady himself making it crystal clear that he is not playing football again, hopefully we can finally put this narrative to bed.
But, probably not. This is the NFL, after all.
