The Houston Texans are for real. After C.J. Stroud’s record-setting performance against Tampa Bay last week, the Texans went into Cincinnati and upset the Bengals in the best of a bunch of excellent games this afternoon.
After the Bengals erased a 10-point deficit in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, C.J. Stroud and the Texans got the ball back with under two minutes to play in a 27-27 tie between the Texans and Bengals.
On 3rd & 6 Stroud nailed Dalton Schultz for a 25-yard gainer over the middle of the field to move Houston to the Cincinnati 46. Stroud then found tight end Noah Brown for a 22-yard catch and run to move the ball to the Cincinnati 20 to set up a game-winning field goal attempt with five seconds left on the clock.
Back-up kicker Matt Ammendola drilled the 38-yarder to give the Texans the victory.
C.J. Stroud out-dueled the red-hot Joe Burrow on the road and the Texans move to 5-4 and are firmly in the wild card conversation in the AFC.
Stroud completed 22 of 39 for 356 yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. Burrow threw for 347 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the losing effort.
