San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Sunday that the belief was that safety Talanoa Hufanga suffered a torn ACL when the 49ers beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Today, Shanahan confirmed the injury to Hufanga, which will sideline him for the remainder of the 2023 season.
According to Shanahan, Hufanga suffered a “clean tear,” and the meniscus was not damaged. The injury occurred while Hufanga attempted to make an open-field tackle on Buccaneers running back Rachaad White.
The 49ers won their second straight game on Sunday, but losing one of the better young players in the NFL is a significant loss for San Francisco’s defense.
