Week 12 of the NFL season is in the books, so let’s look at the updated NFL Draft order after three months of the regular season courtesy of Tankathon. We’re also looking at a few of the latest mock drafts around the web in today’s mock draft medley.
2024 NFL Draft Order
At first glance …
- The Chicago Bears hold onto the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to another loss for the Carolina Panthers whose ’24 first-rounder the Bears own. The two-win Cardinals and Patriots round out the top three.
- Even after a win last night in Minnesota, the Bears own first-rounder is sitting at No. 4 entering Week 13 of the NFL season. The Commanders, Giants, Bucs, Jets, Chargers, and Titans hold picks five through 10 in the first round of the draft. Each of those teams enter this week with four wins on the season.
- The Ravens’ victory over the Chargers on Sunday night gave them the best record in the AFC at 9-3, and it also bumped them down to No. 31 in round one. The Chiefs beat the Raiders on Sunday but moved up two spots to No. 29 thanks to the Ravens victory. The Eagles have the NFL’s best record at 10-1 and have the 32nd pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft as of this morning.
- Cincinnati is now at No. 15, and with Joe Burrow done for the season, they could be stuck at five wins for a while, which would boost their draft pick and allow them to land a potential replacement at a position of value as they look to regroup for 2024.
Mock Draft Medley
- We’ll start at Tankathon, where the have the Chicago Bears taking USC’s Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall. I wrote this morning that “[Justin] Fields has yet to do much in his two games back to hurt or help his case for being the Bears’ QB moving forward, which is less than stellar. Personally, I needed to be wowed down the stretch by Fields. I needed to see him check some developmental flaws consistently and be consistent. Much like his career, these two games have had some flashes but lacked consistency.”
- As much as I want the Bears to see enough in Fields to kick the can and take Marvin Harrison Jr. at the top of the draft, Fields’ performances since returning from a thumb injury that cost him four games has bordered mediocre and incomplete. There’s still time, but I would lean toward Caleb Williams for Chicago if the draft was tomorrow.
- Tankathon has the Cardinals sticking with Kyler Murray — although his Week 12 performance wasn’t exactly confidence-inspiring — and taking Marvin Harrison Jr. Drake Maye heads to New England at No. 3, the Bears take Olu Fashanu at No. 4. The Commanders take Joe Alt at No. 5.
- Tankathon has the Vikings taking Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. at No. 20. Seattle is taking Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy at No. 21. Also notable is that the Jets added another weapon for Aaron Rodgers in 2024, with Brock Bowers heading to New York at No. 8.
- The 33rd Team has the top three shaking out exactly as Tankathon does, with Williams, Harrison, and Maye going to the Bears, Cardinals, and Patriots in that order. However, they have an exciting top-10 compared to others I’ve seen lately.
- They have the Commanders taking Georgia TE Brock Bowers heading to the Commanders at No. 5, LSU QB Jayden Daniels heading to the Giants at No. 6, and LSU WR Malik Nabers heading to the Buccaneers at No. 7. Mike Williams is a free agent after the season, so Nabers to Tampa Bay could be a smart move. Although the Bucs will need a QB. The Giants move on from Daniel Jones with LSU Heisman Hopeful Jayden Daniels in this scenario. In this mock the Jets add some much-needed offensive line help by selecting Joe Alt at No. 8.
- The 33rd Team has the Raiders taking Michael Penix Jr. at No. 10, the Falcons taking QB J.J. McCarthy at No. 19, and the Vikings taking Oregon QB Bo Nix at No. 21 in a first-round that sees six signal callers taken in round one.
- DraftKings Nick Simon has the top three shaking out the same way as the first two drafts but has the Bears taking Notre Dame tackle Joe Alt at No. 4. Simon has the Giants building in the trenches with Penn State’s Olu Fashanu at No. 6 and Tampa Bay taking LSU QB Jayden Daniels at No. 6. Simon too has the Raiders taking a quarterback at No. 11, this time it’s Oregon’s Bo Nix.
