NFL Injury Designations: A Guide
Understanding the different injury designations used in the NFL can be crucial for fantasy football players, bettors, and casual fans alike. While things have changed over the past few years (we no longer have the near-useless โprobableโ tag), the designations are mostly the same as theyโve ever been as we get closer to game time each week.
Hereโs a breakdown of the most common terms youโll encounter:
Active
Meaning: The player is healthy and available to play.
Inactive
Meaning: The player will not play in the game due to injury, illness, or other reasons.
Questionable
Meaning: The playerโs status for the game is uncertain, and a final decision will be made closer to game time.
Doubtful
Meaning: The player is unlikely to play, but thereโs still a small chance.
Out
Meaning: The player will definitely not play in the game.
Did Not Practice (DNP)
Meaning: The player did not participate in practice on a given day due to injury, illness, or other reasons.
Limited
Meaning: The player participated in practice but was limited in some way, such as only doing drills or being held out of contact.
Full
Meaning: The player participated in full practice without any limitations.
Note: While these are the most common designations, teams may sometimes use additional terms or provide more specific details about a playerโs injury. Itโs always a good idea to check the latest injury reports for the most accurate information.
By understanding these injury designations, you can make more informed decisions about your fantasy football lineups, bets, and even whether to watch a particular game.
