Get ready for the Big Game with some friendly competition (and maybe a big win!) using our free printable Super Bowl Squares template. This classic party game adds excitement to every play as fans root for their lucky squares to match the final score’s digits.
But wait, there’s more! This article also includes winning tips and helpful information to make your Super Bowl Squares pool the envy of the party.
What are Super Bowl Squares?
A Super Bowl Squares grid is typically 10×10, creating 100 squares for players to purchase. Each square corresponds to a combination of the last digit of each team’s final score (e.g., Team A’s last digit is 3, Team B’s is 7, the winning square is 37).
How to Play:
- Print the free Super Bowl Squares template below.
- Fill in the team names and date of the Super Bowl.
- Sell squares to players for a set price.
- Assign numbers randomly to each square. (here’s a random number generator you can use)
- After each quarter, announce the winning squares based on the last digits of the score.
Winning Tips:
- Set a clear deadline for square purchases.
- Consider offering bonus payouts for special scores
- Print extra grids in case of high demand.
- Create a fun atmosphere with decorations and snacks.
Bonus Ideas for Prizes
Many pools have created and implemented more ways to win to get everyone involved rather than just the four basic ways to win (for each quarter).
- Score Changes: a portion of the pot set aside for score changes, which is split amongst anyone with a square that happened at ANY TIME during the game. i.e. the person with 3-0 would get a share of this after an opening drive field goal even if the score changes before the end of the first quarter
- Coin Flip: Randomly choose two squares and assign them “heads” and “tails” giving someone a chance to win a prize before the game even happens
- Statistics: Choose certain stats from the game that will also be prize-worthy. For instance: total rushing yards. If the teams end with 135 and 101 rushing yards, respectively, the person who owns the 5/1 square would win that prize. You can do this with just about anything, from total 1st downs to number of pass attempts by each team’s starting quarterback.
- MVP: Randomly assign as many MVP candidates as you want to some squares, taking the final prize into the trophy ceremony. Be sure to add a “field” option if you don’t want to list every single player, just in case things get really weird and a defensive player wins it (it’s happened).
Folks show up too late to your party to get a box?
Print another one and see if you can get one filled up at halftime! Be sure to go find the winners of the 1st and 2nd quarters to see if their new found windfall is looking to be reinvested. With the longer halftime show at the Super Bowl, you should be able to have enough time to create one for just the final two quarters.
What Are Your Chances?
You never know! But, the way the scoring works in football, there are going to be some squares that are much more valuable than others. Getting sevens, threes or zeros are going to be the best case scenario. Twos and Fives aren’t great. Below is a chart of expected values for each combo possible for Super Bowl squares.
