It’s an early Sunday afternoon start for the NHL’s oldest rivalry as the Chicago Blackhawks skate with the Detroit Red Wings at home for the second time in three days. Will the Red Wings bounce back, or will the Blackhawks make it two straight after a rough start?
Let’s take a look at this showdown in our Red Wings vs. Blackhawks betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.
Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Betting Pick
The Chicago Blackhawks finally earned their first victory of the season on Friday night, beating the Red Wings 4-1, thanks to a pair of power-play goals before sealing things up with a shorthanded tally by Mattias Janmark.
The top forward line trio of Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome each picked up two points and rookie goaltender Kevin Lankinen earned his first NHL victory, making 30 saves in the process. The Hawks now have seven power-play goals on the season, which is currently leading the league.
Detroit is 2-0 on the year in the second leg of back-to-back games versus the same opponent, but this team struggles to find consistency at both ends of the ice, a trait that was on full display on Friday night against a weaker Chicago squad.

Bets We Like With a Red Wings Win
Dylan Larkin to Score a Goal Anytime (+200, DraftKings)
The young former University of Michigan star scored the only goal for the Red Wings on Friday night, giving him his third goal and fifth point on the early season. In 11 games against the Blackhawks, Larkin has four goals and five assists. This Detroit team is offensively challenged as a whole, but as the new team captain, he needs to change that narrative by netting a goal once again if the Red Wings are to have a chance in this contest.

Bets We Like With a Blackhawks Win
Alex DeBrincat OVER 2.5 Shots on Goal (-125, DraftKings)
The 23-year old speedster picked up a goal and an assist on Friday night, giving him five points on the season with 14 shots on goal over five games. He’s always live to score when playing alongside linemate Patrick Kane and this morning’s afternoon’s showdown will be no exception. Look for him to go over this shot total and potentially score.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome
First Period OVER 1.5 Goals (-125, BetMGM) and First Period Correct Score (Tied 1-1) (+525, DraftKings)
Provided that we see either Colin Delia or Malcolm Subban in net for Chicago after two consecutive starts for Kevin Lankinen, both of these Hawks goalies are now in a battle to see who will split time moving forward with the emerging rookie. Either way, given the shakiness of both goaltenders, it’s a good bet that they allow one get by.
On the other hand, Thomas Griess might get the day off in favor of backup Jonathan Bernier, who is an aging backup that is prone to let in some soft shots. I like this game to end up tied after the first 20 minutes with the period going over the total of 1.5 goals.
Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Prediction
These two teams both have some issues they need to work on to be consistently competitive throughout the season, but right now the Hawks have shown some solid life in their last two contests. I like them to pull out another home victory to complete the two-game sweep by a final score of 4-2.
