Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Betting Pick

The Blackhawks continue to find ways to win close games, after scoring a 2-0 victory over Columbus on Thursday to give them their eighth win in the last ten games.

Backup goaltender Malcolm Subban made 26 saves for his second career shutout and first in a Blackhawks uniform. Forward Patrick Kane continues to light up the scoresheet as he picked up his 10th goal of the season and 399th of his career late in the third period to open up the scoring. Veteran Carl Soderberg scored an empty netter late to wrap up the victory.

Meanwhile, Detroit enters this contest off of a 5-2 win over Nashville on Thursday, and is 0-4 against Chicago this season.

Bets We Like With a Red Wings Win

Red Wings Team Total OVER 2.5 Goals (+100, DraftKings)

Detroit’s offense finally awakened on Thursday, with five goals scored against Nashville, their highest output of the season. Veteran forward Sam Gagner scored his first hat trick in over a decade to lead the way in that game, and for the Wings to finally get over the hump and beat Chicago, they will need several scoring contributions to get by a hot Blackhawks squad.

Bets We Like With a Blackhawks Win

Blackhawks to Score First and Win the Game (YES +110, Draftkings)

Chicago is 8-0-1 this season when scoring first in a contest, while Detroit is 2-9-2 when conceding the first goal of a game, including 0-5 on the road. The Blackhawks will once again need to strike first and dictate the pace of play early in order to earn their fifth straight win over Detroit.

Bets We Like Independent of the Outcome

First Period OVER 1.5 Goals (-110, DraftKings)

While both of these teams have trended towards lower scoring games, I like this spot here to cash a first period over ticket tonight.

Chicago is back home from a five-game road trip, which could see the team start off a bit flat, and with Detroit, who is 6-4 to the first period over in their last 10 games, they will look to start off strong and try to carry over the momentum from Thursday’s win into this rivalry showdown.

Red Wings vs. Blackhawks Prediction

Chicago is continuing to build their case as a legit playoff contender as we nearly reach the halfway point of the season, and with a lowly Detroit squad coming in, I don’t see the Wings taking advantage of what could be a flat spot for the Hawks after a lengthy period of travel.

In fact, I’m going the other way. Look for the Blackhawks to pick up a 4-2 victory tonight.
