Hurricanes vs. Blackhawks Betting Pick
When Carolina lost to Chicago on Tuesday night it was just its second regulation loss since Feb. 25. (11-2-2). It was also the first time in the same 15 games the Hurricanes were held to less than two goals. And yet, as well as they are playing, they still find themselves in third place in the top heavy Central Division, one point behind both Tampa Bay and Florida.
The ‘Canes have been paced of late by Vincent Trocheck, who has registered at least one point (4-5-9) in each of the last seven games he’s played. They’ve also been getting great goaltending from Alex Nedeljkovic (2.05 GAA, .927 SvPct), who has filled in brilliantly since starting goalie Petr Mrazek was injured four games into the season.
Chicago continues its feel-good story as a team that likes to play fun, fast and wide-open hockey. Patrick Kane has led the Blackhawks in scoring against Carolina this season with nine points in just three games. Sharpshooter Alex DeBrincat has at least one point (3-4-7) in each of his past five games against Carolina

Bets We Like With a Hurricanes Win
Hurricanes to score first and win the game (+117, DraftKings)
When the Hurricanes get on the board first, they are almost a sure bet to win. The Hurricanes are 16-4-2 this season when scoring first (72.7%) and they’ve scored first in 22 of 34 games (64.7%). So the odds are in their favor to have both outcomes happen in any given game – especially coming off a loss (The ‘Canes have scored first in six of nine games coming off a loss), which makes this a nice value bet.
Bets We Like With a Blackhawks Win
Patrick Kane OVER 3.5 shots (+125, DraftKings)
The Chicago star loves to shoot the puck. So far this season, Kane has compiled at least four shots in a game 16 times. However, in the last game against Carolina, he didn’t register a shot.
The last two times Kane was held without a shot, the next game he came out firing and posted seven and four shots on goal, respectively. Great players don’t like getting kept off the scoreboard, but they really don’t like playing full games without a chance to score. Considering he puts up at least four shots in 43% of Chicago’s games anyway, you have to like his chances of getting at least that total, especially in a game Chicago would win.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome
Hurricanes to win and OVER 6 Goals (+210, DraftKings)
The Hurricanes are tied with Vegas for the best points percentage in the league.
Teams that are that good often rebound from a loss quite well. Not to mention the Hurricanes outshot the Blackhawks last game and still lost. Since March 1, teams in a playoff position who lost a game in which they outshot their opponent and then played that same opponent the next game are 17-6 (73.9%). And although the Blackhawks are 7-0-1 on the back end of a two-game series in which they earned at least a point in the first meeting, the Hurricanes have the perfect potion to erase that zero.
Alexander Svechnikov has scored a goal for Carolina in five straight games in Chicago and the Hurricanes have the top-ranked power play in the NHL. Chicago’s penalty kill ranks 27th.
As for the total, in three of the four meetings so far between these teams, the total has gone over, meaning there’s a good chance to double your cash with this parlay.
Hurricanes vs. Blackhawks Prediction
Carolina wants to finish atop the Central Division in a heated three-team race. Chicago just wants to get into the playoffs. There’s more pressure on the younger Blackhawks though, and Carolina has been among the best teams in the sport for more than a month. Chicago got their win over Carolina last time out. This time, the better team prevails.
Make it Hurricanes 5, Blackhawks 3.
