For all the talk about where the Cubs will get their future pitching, tonight’s game – and really the last several games – was a reminder that the offense remains at least as pressing of a concern. Sure, there are some great, impact prospects on the way. But if the Cubs want to have a chance at surprising in 2015, it’s going to require more than hoping on Baez/Bryant/Soler to buttress the offense with Rizzo and Castro. The Cubs are going to need another bat.
In any case, the Cubs’ offense was once again stymied, and a solid pitching performance meant little in the final tally. It was good to see Jake Arrieta bounce back from that Colorado outing. Even if he wasn’t overpowering the Brewers, he was very efficient in the zone, and there was a lot of weak contact, especially early on.
The highlight from the game was the fan catch in the bleachers, for the record.
