The Cubs took advantage of a shaky Gio Gonzalez after a long rain delay to start the game, netting two mostly freebie runs in the first inning. That was all the Cubs would score, but it was enough, because Jake Arrieta was utterly fantastic. The bullpen – used aggressively – held the game from there.
Of course, they got a huge assist in the bottom of the 9th when David Ross picked off Clint Robinson at first base to end the game.
