Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky is given the ball in an end-of-game situation with a chance to lead the team to a tie or put his team ahead on the scoreboard. This exact situation has been thrust on Trubisky five times in his six starts, and for once, it looked like the rookie was going to pull a rabbit out of his hat with a late-game drive to tie Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Faced with a tough 4th-and-13 situation, Trubisky needed a conversion and took it into his own hands … with his legs:

Trubisky’s 19-yard gain on fourth down moved the ball to the Detroit 43-yard-line with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. One play later, Trubisky hit wide receiver Dontrelle Inman with a 15-yard strike to set up Connor Barth with a 46-yard field goal attempt that would have sent the game into overtime.

One week after Barth connected on three field goals between 40 and 49 yards, the second-year Bears kicker missed at an inopportune time. And just days after the team brought in Cairo Santos for a tryout, to boot.
