Jason Vosler hasn’t put up much of a batting average this year (.197), but he now has seven home runs and a season OPS of .729. In May that OPS sits at .812.
One thing to keep an eye on with regards to Vosler – fly ball rate. In 2016 with Myrtle Beach that rate was 35.8%. When he was promoted to Tennessee later that year it jumped to 45.6%, and that was no aberation. In 2017 with Tennessee it was 55.7%, and so far this season he is lofting fly balls at a 57.8% rate. Some of that may be a difference in how Southern League and Carolina League scorekeepers interpret what is a line drive versus what is a fly ball, but not all of it. It looks like Vosler has become a fly ball revolution guy.

Tseng faced this same Omaha team just eighteen days ago, and that start did not go nearly so well. In that game he gave up seven runs over five innings and struck out just five. The nine strikeouts in yesterday’s contest marked a season high for Tseng, and he also set or tied a season low in both walks (1) and hits (4).
Like many of the Cubs’ pitching prospects, Erich Uelmen got off to a rough start this year, and is now turning it around. After his first start his ERA was 23.14 and as recently as May 2 it was still 10.20. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last two starts, though, and that ERA is down to 5.34.
