Cubs Officially Announce Seven More 2018 Draft Signings, Including a Big Bonus Signee

The Chicago Cubs today upped their officially signed draft pick total to 27, with 10 signings joining the 17 announced earlier.

This crop includes second round compensatory pick Cole Roederer, a high school outfielder committed to UCLA who winds up getting a $1.2 million bonus to sign (Callis). That’s mid-second-round money, and likely to the be the Cubs’ second largest bonus in this draft behind first round pick Nico Hoerner.

Among the other new signings, 11th rounder Riley Thompson (Callis) and 20th rounder Chris Allen (Mayo) reportedly also get slightly above slot bonuses, which, together with the over slot bonuses given to Roederer and 6th rounder Kohl Franklin, leaves the Cubs without a ton of overage left. Wonder if they’ll take a big swing at 28th round high schooler Mitchell Parker, or if the savings will be needed to sign 5th rounder Andy Weber.
