Not a lot of booing out of New York on this one, eh?
Javy Báez has been all over your feed lately, with his struggles in New York followed by the whole thumbs down/booing “scandal.” But even the saltiest Mets fans couldn’t muster up a frown on this one. Watch as Báez pulls a TOTAL El Mago moment, scoring from first base on a single to *left field* because that’s just what he does.
WOW‼️

All those killer instincts and gutsy plays that sometimes make you pull your hair out? Yeah, this is the flip side of that coin. Very, very few people could pull off what Javy just pulled off and that’s why we loved him throughout his time in Chicago. Hopefully, that play gets him back in the good graces of fans in New York, who are undoubtedly taking out some of their general-season frustrations on Báez.
By the way, that game-winning run came AFTER Báez knocked in a run and put himself in scoring position in the first place. And it came as part of a 5-run bottom of the 9th inning for the Mets who need every single win imaginable to get back in this race.
Just a little context, here’s how Báez was greeted earlier in the game:
Javy Báez pinch-hit for Jeff McNeil in the eighth inning and he was greeted to… an onslaught of fierce and heavy boos. The boos and cries of 'you suck' continued throughout his at-bat, which ended in a hit by pitch. He walked to first base amid applause.
Baseball is weird.
