Blackhawks Place Shaw, Kalynuk on LTIR; Recall Entwistle, Kurashev

A pair of expected moves became official this morning, as the Chicago Blackhawks have placed both Andrew Shaw and Wyatt Kalynuk on long-term injured reserve. The Blackhawks also recalled forwards MacKenzie Entwistle and Philipp Kurashev with the cap space opened up by Shaw and Kalynuk going on LTIR.

Kalynuk suffered an ankle injury during last Tuesday’s practice and is expected to be back at some point in the near future. The LTIR designation requires that Kalynuk misses a minimum of 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days, so as Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago points out below, November 5 would be the earliest we can expect to see the injured defenseman back in the NHL lineup.

The Blackhawks also recently signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one-year, $800,000 contract to supplement the depth among the defense with Caleb Jones and Wyatt Kalynuk both missing time with injuries to start the season.
