Bronson Arroyo and Christian Arroyo are not related, but will be forever tied by two things – other than sharing the same last name, of course.
The first, this home run that the 21-year-old San Francisco Giants infielder hit off the 40-year-old Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher on Friday night at Great American Ball Park:
Secondly, both graduated from the same high school – Hernando High School in Brooksville, Fla. … albeit, they attended at different times. Christian was chosen by the Giants in the first round (25th pick) of the 2013 draft. Bronson, the elder statesman of the Arroyos, was the Pittsburgh Pirates’ third-round selection (69th overall) in 1995. Meaning that by the time the younger Arroyo was graduating high school, the elder Arroyo was in his 14th Major League season and playing for his third different team.
The Arroyos attended Hernando 18 years apart, meaning Friday’s matchup was the first between two of the best players in the school’s history. Here’s hoping it’s not the last.
