Caleb Williams Dunking on Haters Brings Me Joy

Caleb Williams Bears 7-Round Mock Draft

Caleb Williams isn’t even the Chicago Bears quarterback yet, and he is already giving off a vibe that I can appreciate.

Williams — who, like us — has time on his hands to kill ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. And the presumptive No. 1 pick used some of that time to set the record straight regarding questions about him not having faced adversity. This is a masterclass in silencing the haters. Who knew someone from Gen Z had this level of petty in their bag:

Football talking heads who question Caleb Williams needing a “chip on the shoulder” mindset are reminded by Caleb Williams that he lives with a “chip on the shoulder” mindset. Irony isn’t dead, folks!

CHECK IT OUT: What “The Beast” Says About Caleb Williams (And Other Prospects Linked to the Bears)

Caleb Williams is killing time ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft

Caleb Williams dropping a Webster’s Dictionary style of definition for the word adversity, then lining up moments in his life in which he faced adversity is the kind of thing I would do in a group chat. So I found this tweet exchange quite relatable. Words have meanings, after all. So seeing the Williams tweet had me chuckling to myself and thinking about how the stars are just like us. Except that guy can throw a football over mountains and I can’t. Other than that, we’re twinsies!

To his credit, Williams has worked through adversity — which is *THE* whole point of his tweet reply. And to this point, it has led him to this place and time in which he is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Who’s got it better than Caleb Williams? Unless something unexpected happens between now and when the 2024 NFL Draft begins in two weeks, Williams will be a member of the Chicago Bears. Williams has had quite the ride to get here. And it has been fun filling in the background now that we know he is squarely in the Bears’ sights.

Yes, the probable top pick has battled some things along the way. But the trend to this point is that Williams had made it to the other side. That seems like an important distinction to make. As a Bears fan, I’m hoping his previous experiences callous him ahead of his arrival in Chicago. Being a quarterback is hard enough. But being a Bears quarterback where expectations are higher than the moon is something different. How could expectations not be that high?

Bears fans are already big dreamers. To get a prospect of Caleb Williams’ quality playing for a franchise hasn’t had an honest-to-goodness franchise quarterback in the Super Bowl era is something this fanbase has never experienced. I don’t know what to do with my hands. And I don’t think most Bears fans know either. We’re in uncharted waters, folks.

There are only 14 days left until the 2024 NFL Draft. Soon, we’ll be done with the hypotheticals. The days of us talking around Caleb Williams as the next Bears QB (after all, nothing is officially official until all those “I’s” are dotted and “T’s” on the contract are crossed). There is a light at the end of this football tunnel. I’m looking forward to seeing what is on the other side.
