Catcher Miguel Montero was recently designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs (and ultimately traded to the Blue Jays), after some post-game comments about his pitchers not holding runners on well enough rubbed the front office the wrong way.
According to Montero, the Cubs’ starters, and especially Jake Arrieta, were not giving him a chance to throw runners out, because they were sufficiently bad at keeping them close enough to the base. According to everyone else, it was mostly Montero’s fault.
Recently, I stumbled on a video montage of Arrieta and Montero giving up some stolen bases. Give it a watch and you be the judge:
