Hitting for the cycle is tough, but how about hitting for the home run cycle!? That’s what St. Louis Cardinals’ farm-hand Chandler Redmond did on Wednesday for the Springfield Cardinals.
Redmond hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, a grand slam in the sixth inning, a solo home run in the seventh inning, and a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Redmond became the second professional ballplayer to hit for the home run cycle, ever! And he did it in four consecutive at-bats in four consecutive innings last night.
Redmond joined Tyrone Horne (also of the Springfield Cardinals) as the only other player to hit the home run cycle. Horne did so in 1998, and no major league player has ever accomplished the feat.
Chandler Redmond finished the game 5-6 with four home runs and a team-record 11 RB, and the Cardinals hit eight home runs and scored a team-record 21 runs in their win over Amarillo. All of this just one night after Matt Koperniak hit for the cycle against Amarillo on Tuesday night, becoming the third player in Springfield history to do so and the first since 2011.
What a week for the Springfield Cardinals!
