Martin Maldonado Got Doubled Off First Base Because He … Just Decided Not to Stand on the Base?

Baseball Is Fun

Yup, gonna agree that I’ve never seen anything quite like this before, especially not in an MLB playoff game.

Houston Astros catcher Martin Maldonado was on first base when Jose Altuve popped out to Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France. One out. Right? Nope:

What … was Maldonado thinking there? Just stand on the base, man. It’s right there.

And if you’re NOT going to be on the base, which you obviously should be, wouldn’t you be more off than just one foot? I would argue that taking off would somehow be LESS dopey than just standing there not on the base. Still dopey, but less! Somehow!
