ESPN’s Todd McShay dropped his latest three-round mock draft today, and you can check it out here for the full rundown of picks. To the Bears, specifically, McShay has the team going in a direction that won’t surprise you in the first round, but then might a bit:
With Adams regarded as a top five talent in the draft, and with the Bears desperately in need of impact talent in the secondary, I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see the Bears pop him with the third pick at this point. It’s very high for a safety, but Adams might be a very special safety.
From there, again, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Bears stay in the secondary – despite their many free agent additions – and take advantage of the draft’s quality depth at cornerback, with Humphrey in the second round.
By the time the third round rolls around, though, it would be a little surprising to see the Bears avoid potential offensive impact altogether, especially given the intriguing wide receiver and tight end depth projected for those early-to-middle rounds (and given the Bears’ need to surround new quarterback Mike Glennon with as much talent as realistically possible).
Then again, Bears GM Ryan Pace has repeatedly said the team will focus on the best available talent with their picks, so they will not be focused exclusively on filling out the needs of the roster.
For those wondering, McShay has the Browns taking Myles Garrett with the top pick, despite recent rumors, and then Solomon Thomas goes number two, as has increasingly been suggested in other mock drafts.
