Trey Burton (Groin) Practiced, Albeit In a Limited Capacity

The Chicago Bears releases their first injury report of the 2019 season, and it included some rather encouraging news.

Tight end Trey Burton (groin) was limited in Monday’s practice. Usually, limited participation is a cause for concern. But not in this case. Hear me out.

Burton being limited represents an upgrade from his previous status. Burton did not practice on Sunday, and GM Ryan Pace informed the assembled media at Halas Hall that Chicago’s top “U” tight end option suffered a groin injury that kept him sidelined. And while the injury wasn’t a reaffirmation of what caused Burton to have offseason sports hernia surgery, it was viewed as a setback ahead of Thursday’s season-opener against the Packers.

We will continue to monitor Burton’s progress as the week goes on. If he takes another step forward and practiced more, he could conceivably play in Thursday’s lid-lifter. But we will cross that bridge once we get to a point Burton is on the practice field in a larger capacity.
