Time has expired on Ted Ginn Jr.’s tenure as the Chicago Bears’ punt returner.
A healthy scratch essentially confirms this, as Ginn was among the six inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Saints. I imagine it must sting to be a healthy scratch against your former team, but the writing was on the wall. Ginn has been the replacement for Tarik Cohen after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury against the Falcons, but hadn’t been used much elsewhere. And when the Bears activated Dwayne Harris, I figured time was running out for Ginn’s time in that role. We’ll see what the new guy has in store for the punt return game later today.

It’s still jarring to see Riley Ridley among the inactive players. Ridley was a fourth-round pick in 2019, but hasn’t made much of a dent on the stat sheet. Then again, being deactivated before every game isn’t going to help matters. Perhaps we should see this as a sign that Allen Robinson is totally healthy after suffering a concussion last week. Even still … it’s a bummer to see a draft pick like Riley not get a chance to earn some more burn.
