Tyree Wilson is one of the most intriguing defensive line prospects in this upcoming NFL Draft class.
The measurables are eye-popping. Wilson checked in at 6-6 and 271 pounds with arms that measured 35-5/8 inches and hands that came in at 9-5/8 inches. Long levers and large hands are the kinds of things NFL scouts tend to drool over. And if that wasn’t enough, Wilson had quality production while at Texas Tech. In his final season with the Red Raiders, Wilson came up with 7 sacks and 14 tackles-for-loss in 10 games as he earned All-American and All-Big 12 honors.
With that being said, it is of no wonder why the Chicago Bears are using a top-30 visit on Tyree Wilson:
As NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport points out above, Tyree Wilson is going to be a busy beaver. Save for Easter weekend, Wilson will be making the rounds and getting to know teams. And, of course, one of those visits will be with the Bears’ brass. With good reason, too, I might add.
The Bears could use an impact defender at the defensive end spot and Wilson could be an ideal fit. A solid pass rusher who has the ability to set the edge as a run defender checks some boxes. As does Wilson’s size and length. There are some medical yellow flags that Wilson needs to clear up. However, he was a recent recipient of good news on the medical front. I imagine that will come up when meeting the Bears (and other teams).
Wilson isn’t the best defensive end prospect in this class. But he is garnering enough attention to make me think he could be on GM Ryan Poles’ radar with the ninth overall pick. Considering Wilson’s prospect status and the Bears’ positional needs, it is an easy match to make. Wilson has already met twice with the Bears, so perhaps this third time will be a charm.
