If your favorite team (i.e. the Chicago Bears) is desperate to add explosive playmakers on offense, then maybe University of Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy should be on your radar.
And if he wasn’t already, then he will be now that he broke the NFL Scouting Combine record in the 40-yard dash.
Running the 40 in 4.21 seconds is ridiculously nuts:
I’m almost at a loss for words because I didn’t know humans could move that quickly in such a short distance. Xavier Worthy is so fast that if you blink, you’ll miss it. And if you blinked while watching that 40-yard dash run, then you probably missed history. But that’s cool because that is why video replay was invented. I think.
Xavier Worthy is part of a loaded wide receiver class
There hasn’t been a day that has passed during the NFL offseason in which I haven’t stopped to think about the upcoming class of draft-eligible wide receivers. It is straight-up bonkers how many talented wideouts there are in this class. So much so that it is easy to imagine the Chicago Bears landing a high-caliber prospect in this class. Heck, they should be aiming to land multiple such receiver prospects. Think about it. Somebody has to line up opposite the formation from D.J. Moore — right?
If you’re curious about where Xavier Worthy will land on NFL Draft weekend, the latest Tankathon mock draft has him going 50th overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. That would put him squarely in Round 2. Unfortunately, the Bears don’t have a second-round pick because they sent it to the Washington Commanders in the Montez Sweat trade. You won’t hear any complaints from me about that trade since I’ve come around full circle after seeing Sweat’s fit in this defense and on this team.
But, hey, maybe if the Bears find a way to trade back with one of their first-round picks in April’s draft, then maybe Worthy would make sense as a fit. If not, one of the NFL’s other 31 teams will get a speedster. Hopefully, it isn’t anyone in the Bears’ division.
