DJ Wants the Pack, Panthers Turn to Nerds, A-Rob to New York, and Other Bears Bullets

Bears WR DJ Moore

I’m out getting some car repairs and the dealership I’m at has functioning wi-fi. Here’s hoping this is a short visit.

  • The NFL schedule isn’t dropping today, which was originally expected. Instead, it will come next Wednesday. More on that in yesterday’s set of Bears Bullets.
  • While we don’t know the times, dates, or broadcast networks for these games, at least we know who the Bears’ opponents are and whether they’ll be at home or on the road. Well, for the most part. Because while Chicago’s football team does have nine home dates, one of those “home” games is being played in London.
  • Oh, and they have an extra preseason game on their slate because of their participation in the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Houston Texans. In case you’re curious, there are just 87 days until that game kicks off.
  • The Athletic has all the team-by-team opponent matchups.
  • DJ Moore’s appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams was a treat. I just love that he takes games against the Green Bay Packers so seriously:
  • Moore caught just 6 passes for 89 yards in two games against the Packers last year. Much of that damage (6 targets, 4 catches, 64 yards) came in the Week 18 season finale because he was a non-factor (2 targets, 2 catches, 25 yards) in the Week 1 season-opener. I hate how that game set a tone for what was an ominous start to the 2023 season. And while Moore finished with a flurry and ended up with 96 catches, 1,364 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns, getting more production against the Packers is a must.
  • Colleen Kane (Tribune) checks in with a post-NFL Draft Chicago Bears roster review. Kane explores the new-look Bears to see where the team is better (or worse) than they were last year. Meanwhile, Alyssa Barbieri (BearsWire) compares where the Bears are now to where they were when General Manager Ryan Poles showed up in Chicago. There has been some significant roster turnover, to say the least. And while the future is uncertain, the heavy lifting that came with tearing down the tattered remains of the Ryan Pace era is over.
  • NERD ALERT: The Athletic’s Joe Person reports the Carolina Panthers plan on hiring SumerSports VP Eric Eager into an analytics role. Eager was previously at Pro Football Focus. I’m glad the Panthers waited until after trading with the Bears to use analytics to their advantage.
  • How the mighty have fallen: Allen Robinson II is signing a one-year contract with the New York Giants, reports ESPN. Robinson, 30, is in the midst of his bouncing around era. The Giants represent A-Rob’s third different team since leaving the Bears after the 2021 season. Robinson’s results have been underwhelming, catching just 33 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. Last season, Robinson spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But it’s not as if it was memorable. Robinson snagged 34 passes for 280 yards without scoring a touchdown. Ick. Best of luck to him in the Big Apple.
  • Someone needs to do a 30-for-30 on Allen Robinson’s fall from grace. After putting up consecutive seasons with 1,100+ receiving yards with the Bears in 2019-2020, Robinson has amassed just 1,029 yards in 39 games. How did this happen? I simply do not understand how a player goes from Pro Bowl consideration to looking washed in three seasons at the age of 30. Are wide receivers the new running backs? Both are position groups to have a volume of useful players who shine brightly but can flame out quickly without a heads up. I’m still workshopping this, so don’t yell at me.
  • I didn’t see Doug Atkins play. But hearing stories about how he balled out for the Bears is fun:
  • HERE IT IS: The Bleacher Nation Newsletter

  • Nikola Jokić won his third NBA MVP award, which our friends at BN Bulls point out puts him in rare air.
  • An NHL Draft mock draft roundup from the folks at BN Blackhawks shares what people are saying the Chicago Blackhawks will do with the No. 2 pick.
  • When asked to explain Paul Skenes’ promotion to the big leagues in football terms, one Twitter user descried it as the baseball equivalent of the Vikings starting rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy in a Week 5 matchup against the Bears. And suddenly, it made a whole lotta sense:
