Caleb Williams and Co. Head to the Southside, Claypool on His Time with Chicago, and Other Bears Bullets

Not many things would make me want to attend a White Sox game again this season, but this Caleb Williams-inspired promo could be one of them.

  • The White Sox are offering $18 outfield tickets for their game against the Baltimore Orioles tonight. Williams, Rome Odunze, and Kiran Amegadjie will be in attendance and throwing out the first pitch. That might be the only pitch that doesn’t end up in the $18 outfield seats that you purchased, considering Mike Clevinger is on the mound against the Orioles’ home run-happy offense. But if you’re bored, want to see Caleb Williams and Co. toss out the first pitch, or maybe just enjoy great ballpark food and would like to see a young and talented team play baseball, then grab a ticket to see the Orioles wallop the White Sox tonight.
  • Speaking of Williams and Odunze, you might be wondering why neither have signed their rookie contracts yet. We’re nearly a month removed from the NFL Draft, but there’s no reason to worry about the Bears’ two first-rounders being unsigned still.
  • The only first-rounders that have signed their rookie contract with their team are Tennessee Titans offensive lineman JC Latham and New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers. Looking back at the Bears’ recent history with their first-round picks, Darnell Wright was a relatively quick signing (May 15), but Justin Fields didn’t sign his rookie tender with the Bears until June 10.
  • At the end of the day, NFL rookies are locked into their allotted money from the rookie contract pool set every season. According to the NFL’s current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), rookies and teams cannot exceed the money allotted for their respective positions in the draft. Spotrac values the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft at $38.54 million, and Over the Cap has it a bit higher at $39.49 million. For Rome Odunze (No. 9), Spotrac has his rookie deal value at $22.23 million, and Over the Cap has him at $22.72 million.
  • Former Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool is playing with the Buffalo Bills after being traded to the Dolphins last season and then released by Miami. At Buffalo’s OTAs this week, Claypool admitted that he hasn’t lived up to his potential. “I think it is tough believing the player that you are or can be and falling short of those expectations, especially over the last two years, for sure,” Claypool said. “It is a tough position because I know there’s times where it can be frustrating if I’m not living up to my potential.
  • In what could be considered the biggest swing-and-miss of Ryan Poles’s era, Chicago sent a second-round draft pick to Pittsburgh in 2022, and he was an absolute disappointment during his time there. “But if it’s frustrating to the outside world, it’s even more frustrating for me. I understand where I should be. And I understand that I haven’t met those expectations. And that’s why I work harder and harder and harder and harder every year so I can meet and exceed those expectations.”
  • Nothing surprising there from Claypool, who’s looking to turn his career around with his fourth team in the last three seasons. Good luck, seriously. Anyway, back to the now. The Bears are releasing a new episode of 1920 Football Drive tonight, and I can only imagine that it will have some good behind-the-scenes content from the NFL Draft and pre-draft process.
  • This mock intro for the Bears on HBO’s Hard Knocks by DaWindyCity Productions is awesome (and I hope the NFL forces the Bears to be this year’s team featured in training camp).
  • The Bears are back in action at Halas Hall today for more OTAs, and we’ll see plenty more of these highlights all day. What a time to be a Bears fan!
