The Bears schedule has been released for about a week now, and I’ve had this one in the bookmark folder on Twitter since then, and I’ve got a few minutes to get into it now.
Bill Speros has calculated the anticipated travel distance for each NFL team during the regular season. According to his estimates, the Bears are expected to travel 19,558 miles, which ranks them 15th in terms of distance traveled among all teams in the league for the upcoming season.
The Bears Won’t Have Much of an Advantage (or Disadvantage) When it Comes to Travel This Season
The Bears definitely have an advantage when it comes to travel distance compared to some other teams in the league. Their central location means that they don’t have to travel as far for many of their away games.
However, they still have a couple of significant trips on their schedule. The journey to London to face the Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a particularly long one, flirting with 4,000 miles one way. Additionally, they have to travel to San Francisco, which is more than 2,000 miles away one way, and to Arizona, which is around 1,800 miles one way.
These longer trips will definitely have an impact on the players and the team as a whole. But it could be worse. By contrast, the Chargers face a significantly higher travel burden, with a whopping 26,803 expected miles this upcoming season.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Washington Commanders have the lightest travel schedule in the league this season, with only 10,550 miles expected to be logged. Much of that is a product of their divisional foes in driving road trip distance and the NFC East as a division drawing the AFC North and NFC South as inter and intraconference games.
