Welcome to hockey returns week, Blackhawks fans! The summer of prospects is now closed and we can turn our attention to the new season of Chicago Blackhawks hockey. Well… yeah, we’re still going to talk about prospects a lot because rebuild and stuff but the big boys are going to be back on the ice this week and that makes us happy.

  • On Monday morning the Blackhawks woke up and reminded us that training camp starts this week. The full schedule of events between now and the start of the 2022-23 regular season is now out! We’ve got it all for you.
  • Our guys were at the rink all last week watching the action and a few players’ performances stood out. Tab and Patrick shared their key takeaways from this year’s Tom Kurver Prospect Showcase.
  • Here’s one specific highlight we enjoyed from Sunday’s win:
  • Here are the postgame — post showcase — comments from coach Anders Sorensen. It’s pretty obvious that he’s excited for some of the new guys he’ll get to work with this season and in the coming years in Rockford.
  • Paul Ludwinski got banged up on Sunday (upper-body) but he showed well this past week after a nice development camp. He spoke with Phil Thompson at the Chicago Tribune about the leadership of Jonathan Toews and transitioning the model for his development to follow 19 instead of 88 in Chicago.
  • This is one free agent we wouldn’t have minded seeing in Chicago. Sonny Milano is reportedly headed to Calgary, but only on a PTO contract. He’s a nice player and this could be a solid add for a Flames team that had a fascinating offseason retooling with their two best players leaving but remaining in strong position to compete again this year.
  • This is a fun concept for a preseason story. And I think they did a nice job picking a song for the Blackhawks (“All That’s Left” by Thrice). What would you pick as a song for this year’s Hawks team?
  • Finally, let’s get back on the prospect wagon and enjoy the Cubs’ next generation improving rapidly.
