After 20 minutes of hockey, neither team had a goal on the scoreboard and I was searching for caffeine. The Wild out-shot the Blackhawks 13-5 in the first period. Arvid Söderblom had a nice first period.
The Blackhawks allowed a power play goal to Karill Kaprisov — his 40th goal of the season — early in the second and found themselves chasing. Marco Rossi and Frederick Gaudreau also scored for the visitors in the second period and the Wild stormed to a three-goal lead at the end of 40 minutes. Shots on goal were 29-15 in favor of Minnesota. Now, it was the Blackhawks’ offense that was searching for caffeine.
Faber got the first point in the Calder competition on Sunday. He got a rush and, when Kevin Korchinski and Landon Slaggert both stayed with him after he dropped the puck off for Kaprisov, the Wild took a four-goal lead with ease. Chicago’s offense never got out of bed and a strong performance on Saturday was followed by a dull thud on Sunday. The Blackhawks got shut out for the 13th time this season.
Star 1: The Coffee Machine
Something had to get me thru three periods of hockey today and lemme tell you, it wasn’t the hockey.
Star 2: Seth Jones
Jones had three hits, one shot on net and one takeaway in the first period. He had three shots on goal and five hits after two periods. The guy we saw playing his tail off on Saturday afternoon was in attendance on Sunday as well. The only problem was there weren’t many guys who came with him.
Star 3: Arvid Söderblom
He was better than his save percentage would lead you to believe on Sunday. This was one of those games where people will scream about his goals against without having watched the game and embarrass themselves.
