NHL Mock Draft Roundup: A New 2-Round Mock To Consider!

Throughout the offseason, I’m keeping an eye out for mock drafts and how some reputable folks are projecting the Blackhawks’ selections in the 2024 NHL Draft. Already this offseason I’ve offered three roundups of other mock drafts with some names and rationale for the Blackhawks’ picks for us to digest and consider.

  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 1
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 2
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 3
  • We got a new one on Wednesday, and it’s a good one. And the best part: it’s a full two rounds! Let’s get into it.

The Athletic — Corey Pronman & Scott Wheeler

The writers at The Athletic completed a full two(!!)-round mock draft, alternating picks for teams. Corey Pronman was responsible for all of the Blackhawks’ picks in the first two rounds. Each picks’ name has the link to their EliteProspects bio page for you to check out their stats.

    2. Artyom Levshunov, RHD

Pronman’s Comments:Feels like the winds are blowing in the direction of Ivan Demidov but my gut instinct is that if it’s close between the two, an NHL team will prefer the big, impactful defenseman they’ve seen in person for two years.

    20. Igor Chernyshov, RW

Pronman’s Comments:Chernyshov is a big, skilled winger who can fly and would be a great fit on Chicago’s top six alongside many of the other speedsters they’ve picked in recent years.

  • My Thoughts: This is an interesting pick. I know there will be folks out there who take issue with it simply because he’s a Russian player who spent 22 games in the MHL last year, but he also appeared in 34 games in the KHL. He’s listed at 6-2 and 196 pounds, so the size is a potentially nice fit. Like Ivan Demidov, he has one year remaining on his KHL contract and he shares representation with both Demidov and Levshunov.
  • 34. Julius Miettinen, C

Pronman’s Comments:Miettinen is a big center who skates well and has solid offensive traits. He helps Chicago continue to build out their young center depth.

  • My Thoughts: In my most recent mock, I had Miettinen going to the New York Rangers at the end of the first round, so this spot is roughly where I see him being on the board. He’s listed at 6-3 and 207 pounds and scored 31 goals in 66 games for Everett in the WHL this past season. If he’s on the board and the Blackhawks take him, I would be very happy.
  • 54. Carson Wetsch, RW

Pronman’s Comments:[Wetsch]’s pure skill level won’t blow you away, but he’s a tremendous competitor who skates well and has enough playmaking to potentially be an NHL player.

  • My Thoughts: Wetsch is another big forward (6-2, 201) who was productive in the WHL. He scored 25 goals with 25 assists in 67 games. Based on where he’s ranked by most outlets, this is a bit of a reach. They have forwards Simon Zether and John Mustard come off the board after this pick and I would prefer either of them if all three are on the board.
  • 61. Jacob Battaglia, RW

Pronman’s Comments: “Battaglia is a decent-sized winger with the speed and offensive skills to potentially score at higher levels and was quite productive in the OHL this season.

  • My Thoughts: This is another interesting pick, partly because Battaglia played for Kingston in the OHL where his captain this past season was Blackhawks prospect Paul Ludwinski (so obviously the Hawks have seen him play a fair amount). He does have decent size (6-0, 205) and scored 31 goals in 67 regular-season games. Again, based on where he’s ranked it feels like a bit of a reach but it’s an intriguing name to consider here.
