A Michael Jordan Rookie Card Was Stolen in a Chicago Burglary

Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls

One of the most coveted cards in the game was recently stolen from a sports memorabilia store in Chicago.

According to a report from TMZ, a fleer packet that included a 1986 Michael Jordan rookie card was snatched from Elite Sports Cards & Comics on Memorial Day. Among the other things stolen were cards of notable sports legends Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Walter Payton, and Larry Bird.

Ronnie Holloway, who owns the shop, said all are considered “high-end cards” and over $100,000 in merchandise was stolen. The burglar broke in shortly before 4:00 am on May 31st, reportedly removing the bars on a back window before crawling inside. The entire incident was captured on security cameras, but the male suspect was wearing a mask.

Holloway said the stolen Jordan merchandise is worth $25,000 alone. For what it’s worth, though, we know that certain Jordan rookie cards have sold for around $70,000 in the past. But, regardless of the exact price range, there is no doubt losing that piece of history is a significant loss.

TMZ reported that a suspect has not yet been caught. Holloway has put up a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
