LOL: Derrick Rose Was Playing Chess at the Drake Concert

Derrick Rose’s love of chess knows no bounds! On Wednesday night, the Chicago Bulls legend and current member of the Memphis Grizzlies took in a Drake concert with his partner, Alaina A. Anderson. In an Instagram story posted on Anderson’s account, Rose could be seen locked into a game of virtual chess.

Check it out:

Drake is mid-song yet Rose is mid-strategy! If that’s not the mindset of a winner, I don’t know what is!

Rose’s attachment to chess has been well-documented. He most recently announced a festival – aka “Chesstival” – where celebrities, athletes, and amateurs could celebrate the game. Unfortunately, the 2023 event, which was supposed to take place in Las Vegas during Summer League, has to be postponed due to scheduling conflicts. However, the official Instagram for the event shared that new dates would be announced in 2024.

Rose also notably used chess as a metaphor in an emotional social media post back in 2022. The point guard was responding to people using the word “vintage” to describe some of his recent play. You can check that out here.

After appearing in just 27 games last season, Rose signed with the Grizzlies and will return this season to the city where he broke onto the scene in college. With Ja Morant sidelined due to an extension, Rose could be on the brink of playing a big early-season role.
